Once again, the summer edition of Pitti that was held last week in Florence, opened in the rain. It took ages to get to the Fortezza da Basso but photographers did have time to capture the best looks worn by the fair’s visitors.
The 108th edition attracted approimately 15,000 visitors including just over 11,000 buyers for 740 exhibitors.
To report on this year's event, we met 4 of the French brands we support with DEFI, plus one buyer.
As an interior decorator based half the year in Tunisia, Émile Garçon had an epiphany during the pandemic when he discovered second-hand treasures. He uses vintage silk scarves for his shirts and also uses them to line coats that he finds in thrift shops or on his travels. He has had several pop-ups at Le Bon Marché and now offers a collection of numbered, one-off coats and shirts. In Pitti's atmosphere of temporality, his stand stood out with his vintage pieces embellished by embroideries and linings that could be purchased immediately.
Why was Émile Garçon at Pitti this season?
Right now, I have a corner in a Paris boutique, but I'm looking for other international outlets. This is my first fashion trade fair. I wanted to come to Pitti because the show's offer corresponds to the high-level demands of my product. Plus, I wanted to have a fun experience. I came last winter as a visitor and already felt at ease.
How was the show for you?
It was a great experience right from the beginning. Within 30 minutes on the first day I’d met a serious customer from New York. Others followed. I've had a lot of compliments, people stop and are curious. It takes a little time to digest the brand's concept, which is a bit different in form and content. Everything on the stand is for sale and I can ship in a week. Of the 4 buyers who stopped by the stand, they all came back on the second day and were very interested. I'm thrilled!
